Tennessee, 1974 - SB 1378
An attempt to repeal the last sentence of 49-2008, Tennessee Code Annotated. Introduced by 1973's SB 394, it allowed equal time for creation studies and made textbook writers state that evolution was only a theory. The sentence in question excludes the teaching of "all occult or satanical beliefs" as those allowed to get equal-time for study.
On January 21, 1974, Senators Douglas Henry, Jr., and Curtis Person, Jr., introduced Senate Bill No. 1378. This bill passed the first and second readings and on January 22, was referred to the Committee on Education. On February 14, S.B. No. 1378 was recalled from the Committee on Education on motion and was withdrawn from consideration by the Senate on another motion.
