"A bill to amend Act No. 269 of the Public Acts of 1955, entitled 'The school code of 1955,'" intending to give equal time between "the scientific theory of evolution" and "the story of creation."
On March 6, 1973, Representatives Warner, Powell and Smith introduced House Bill No. 4339. This bill was referred to the Committee on Education which retained the bill. H.B. No.4339 was not presented for further consideration to the House of Representatives.
HOUSE BILL NO. 4339
A bill to amend Act No. 269 of the Public Acts of 1955, entitled "The school code of 1955," as amended, being section 340.1 to 340-984 of the Compiled Laws of 1970, by adding section 360a.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Section 1. Act No. 269 of the Public Acts of 1955, as amended, being sections 340.1 to 340-984 of the Compiled Laws of 1970, is amended by adding section 360a to read as follows:
Section 360a. When the scientific theory of evolution is taught in a course in a public school, the story of creation shall also be taught in the same course with a reasonable amount of time devoted thereto as an historical version of the subject. Supplementary or unit study material may be used to accommodate this requirement.
