National science groups support NCSE with $$$
Is your organization standing tall for evolution? For science education? For the scientific method?
That's what NCSE asked some of the leading science and industry organizations in the world. And their reply was a resounding Yes! Better yet, they've become the first Supporting Organizations of NCSE, funding NCSE's battle to defend the teaching of evolution in America's public schools.
Who stepped up? For starters, the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the American Association of Physical Anthropologists (AAPA), the American Institute of Biological Sciences (AIBS), the Paleontological Society (PS), and the Society for the Study of Evolution (SSE).
"By donating to the NCSE, we're benefiting all areas of biological anthropology. The decision to support NCSE was unanimous," said Dr. Lorena Madrigal, President of the AAPA.
Until recently, only individuals could join NCSE. But now science organizations, professional associations, businesses, law firms, nonprofits, and others can do their part by becoming Supporting Organizations.
"Joining NCSE is a potent way to support evolution education and defend the integrity of science" says NCSE executive director Eugenie C. Scott. "Annual contributions from Supporting Organizations provide a much-needed stable income stream to support NCSE's important work."
How important? The future intellectual and economic health of the United States is at stake.
"Evolution is a central and critically important unifying principle for biology," says Dr. Richard O'Grady, Executive Director of AIBS. "[It's] critically important to our ability to identify, treat, and prevent disease; and to develop new food crops. Evolution is cutting edge science that will help us grow our economy, help our children compete for quality jobs, and promote our national well being."
The National Center for Science Education is the only national organization dedicated to defending the teaching of evolution in the public schools and opposing the teaching of religious views as science. If your organization isn't on board, maybe it should be!
